Anger is Destructive

Ephesians 4:26-27(NIV)

26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

Anger is something that is within all of us. There are times when anger is appropriate, even Jesus was angry with the moneychangers in the temple. On occasion we might have to confront evil and it is appropriate to have anger. But most of the time we have to deal with our anger on everyday things that we face.

If you have ever played golf it can be a very frustrating game. One of the few times I ever witnessed my dad show anger was on the golf course. One day I was playing golf with a good friend from church, and I was playing terrible. He said, “Darrell, you are not good enough at golf, to be getting mad at your golf game”. We both have had a good chuckle with that over the years. It made me think about the times I have gotten angry and now that I look back it was over insignificant events.

As long as we are living on this earth, we are going to be tempted to lose our temper on minor inconveniences of life. We need to turn away from anger, hatred, bitterness, and regret. We need to turn instead to God.

James 1:19-20 (NIV)

19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Good morning Darrell! I’m a very easy-going person for the most part; although, I do know I have my tipping point. It seems I’ve done some of my worst thinking and acted in times of anger.

Through the help of God and others (you), I’ve learned to wait out anger before making any decisions or taking any action. In doing so, I’ve found my threshold for patience have grown.

Truly God’s work within!
