Count your Blessings

In church there is an old hymn “Count Your Blessing”. Part of the song goes like “Count your many blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done”. There is a lot of truth in these words.

Have you ever got down on yourself, and feel “woe is me”? It is time to take stock and count our blessings. Usually, our thoughts immediately go to the material and physical benefits like houses, jobs, family, and health. However, for those who know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior they have spiritual blessings that are even greater. Many times, we tend to forget and might even take them for granted. There are so many spiritual blessings that there are too many to list here but let me list a few.

I have to start with my salvation. This is the starting point that leads to so many other Spiritual blessings that God has for his children. The fact that Jesus paid the cost of my sins on the cross leads to so many other blessings.

  • As Christians we have the Holy Spirit indwelling within us

  • As Christians we know God loves us

  • As Christians there is inner peace when we belong to Christ

  • As Christians God supplies our needs

  • As Christians we have the awesome privilege of praying

  • As Christians we have a future home in heaven

  • As Christians we have God’s Word (bible)

This is just a few of the spiritual blessings that God has given us. So, if you want to see how blessed we truly are as a child of God, just start counting your blessings.

Ephesians 1:3-8

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
