Do we fear the Lord?
Do we fear the Lord? Fear has a few meanings, often fear is used as in being frightened. That is not what I am talking about today. To “fear the Lord” in the bible means, having a deep respect, reverence and awe for God’s power and authority.
In the Old Testament David often found himself in situations where his life was in danger, and he put his trust in the Lord to deliver him from his enemies. David feared the Lord and knew the Lord would deliver him from danger. This happened in “David and Goliath”, David’s faith and “fear of the Lord” delivered David from the giant Goliath.
David wrote a poem in Psalm 34 that talks about the “fear of the Lord”.
Psalm 34:7-9
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
9. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing
In these verses we see that those who reverence the Lord delivers them. This is telling us the Lord hears our cries for help when we cry out to the Lord. When we are obedient to God, we cannot help but see the Lord is good. We can also see in verse 9 that the Lord will supply the needs to those that “fear the Lord”.
For those that have accepted the Lord as their Lord and Savior and show “fear for the Lord”, can put their trust in the Lord that He will hear them and deliver them.
