Don’t Miss Your Last Opportunity
I had the opportunity to visit Hong Kong back in 1981 when I was in the US Navy assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). British Hong Kong was a colony and dependent territory of the British Empire from 1841 to 1997. I had one of the last duties prior to pulling out. I was assigned to assist the Shore Patrol in checking ID’s and contraband on the sailors coming back from their last liberty before we pulled out of Hong Kong and headed to Subic Bay in the Philippines. You might wonder what kind of contraband? Well sailors were trying to bring Samurai swords as souvenirs; things like that. All I can say, is “come on now” you can’t have a sailor swinging a sword around the hanger bay. It was a busy night.
One of the costliest mistakes a sailor can make is miss ship’s movement. In Victoria Harbour we were anchored out in the Harbour and had at least a thirty-minute liberty boat ride to the docks. Prior to pulling up anchor the deck crew were securing the barge that the sailors used to enter the ship. Then in the distance here comes a family motorboat carrying one last sailor who came about as close as you can come to missing the ship movement. He almost missed his last opportunity.
Each one of us have a decision to make about our salvation. This is the most important decision we must make in our life. This is one decision we don’t want to miss that last opportunity. The consequences are eternal. Have you made the decision to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ?
Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Don’t miss the opportunity to put your trust in Jesus, we never know when it might be our last opportunity.
Hebrews 9:27
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.
