Draw Near to God

Do you feel close to God, or does He feel distant? At times it can feel like we are not very close to God. Oh, we know God is real, we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, but the intimacy is not always there.  This can happen to all of us if we don’t keep our relationship nurtured.

We live in a culture that promotes self-independence. I personally have been in that same mindset that I am self-independent. However, we can carry that to a point that at times we can think, I don’t need God. This is faulty thinking on our part. We need a daily personal relationship with God, and He wants that too.

So, how do we do this? In James 4:8 it reads, “Come near to God and he will come near to you”. Many times, He uses situations and difficulties to get our attention and stimulate our thirst for Him. What appears to be a painful or desperate situation is often His invitation to draw near.

Just like in any relationship to draw closer to someone, we must spend time nurturing that relationship. We do this by spending time in His Word and talking with God in our prayers.  You might say that I say this a lot.  Well, I do because it is so true. Spend time in His Word and pray that God speaks to you in what you read. Then pray to God just as if you are talking to a friend about what you are dealing with.

I am amazed at how often the scripture I read is talking about what I am dealing with in my life.  This is not by coincidence. You are drawing near to God.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
