God Grants us Wisdom
God gives us a promise to grant us Wisdom. I wish I had claimed this my whole life, but my rebellious attitude at times has clouded my decision to even ask God for His wisdom. James tells us that in every decision and circumstance you face, God offers wisdom to see life from His perspective if you ask in faith and without doubt. However, sin can keep you from claiming this promise because it crowds out truth, creates uncertainty, and leads to unwise choices.
James 1:5
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
The most obvious source of godly wisdom is the Bible. You cannot think of a question or life circumstance about which God’s Word doesn’t guide us. God’s principles for right character, conduct, and conversation apply to every situation and decision confronting us.
I can recall times in my life when I didn’t respond wisely. Now that I look back at those circumstances I either didn’t know a certain biblical principle or knew the principle that applied but chose to ignore or violate it. This is another reason why we need to be grounded in God’s Word to learn His principles and standards for living our lives. Our knowledge comes from learning God’s principles and Wisdom comes from applying them. The Lord cautions us to keep His Word in our heart and in our heads so that we will heed His instructions.
Proverbs 8:33
Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it.
