Has Your Heart ever been full of Joy and Ached at the Same Time?
Has your heart ever been full of happiness and proud of a child and then ached for them? This is the time of year when kids head off to college and for many this is the first time being away from mom and dad. I have a few friends that are facing this right now for the first time and it can be tough. I have been there a few times with my boys.
As a parent you want your kids to succeed so much, and you want the best for them. I have dropped a child off at college before and you are happy and proud for them and at the same time you know your life is changing and your heart aches a little. I had the same feeling dropping a son off to go to Coast Guard boot-camp. I think back and my dad must have had the same feeling when he drove me to the Navy recruitment office in Indianapolis when I headed off to Navy bootcamp back on August 4, 1977. It is one of those days filled with all kinds of emotions.
For the parents your child is no longer under your umbrella of protection. This is when you have to lean on God for their protection. PRAYER and FAITH in God is the answer. This is when you have to realize that God loves your child more than you do and you depend on God for their protection. So, mom and dad start your day with prayer and praying throughout the day that God protects your child from the bad things in the world and guards their steps at all times. You do this and it can give you a peace in your heart that your child is under the protection of a Sovereign God that controls every step your child will make.
Psalm 91:2
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:11
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
