He Comforts You in Times of Trouble

We have all had times of troubles at some point in our life. Terri and I participated in a study at church called the “40 days of Purpose”. One of the things that Rick Warren said is that “God never wastes a hurt”. Hurts are part of a believer’s life. God uses these hurts to teach us and show us His love for us. Comfort is not found in the absence of pain, but in the midst of it. We have a promise from God in Hebrews 5 when Paul says, The Lord does not come and go: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5). No matter what the difficulty may be, God knows what you’re going through, and He will come alongside you to provide comfort and encouragement.

Jesus refers to the “Holy Spirit” as the Helper and Comforter. John 14:26 KJV

6 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

So, when we have our troubles and hurts in our life we are not alone, Our Lord and Savior is right there with us. What a promise God has given us. The Comforter soothes in various ways—through Scripture, hymns, other believers (who have probably experienced heartache), or other ways that that He can soothe our particular hurts. He is capable of matching the comfort with the sorrow.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
