Never Pass up an Opportunity to Pray for Someone
“Never Pass up an Opportunity to Pray for Someone”
You never know when God will put you in a situation to pray for someone. When that time comes don’t pass it up. You might be at work, it could be in someone’s house, it might be in a hospital room, or it could be on a golf course. Now some of my golf buds say my game needs lots of prayer, but I am not talking about praying for my golf game. The point is stop what you are doing and pray. God might only give you that one opportunity so please don’t pass it up.
How does prayer help? This is a way that we can help carry someone’s burden. I have had coworkers pray for me at work when I had a serious medical diagnosis that brought uncertainty into my life. People praying for me gave me a peace to know that it was not in my hands, but in God’s hands. There is no better place to place your burden than in God’s hands. Putting it in God’s hands gave me Hope, as it encouraged me to know that things were going to be OK. It also helped me by knowing that I did not have to carry this burden by myself, I had friends praying for me. This increased my faith and help take away my fear.
On occasion my wife and I have had the privilege to pray with a friend that was just given a pretty scary prognosis. The illness brought uncertainty in their lives with a lot of what-ifs. Having the what-ifs can be a lonely frightening time for a person. You might think this is out of my control and there is nothing I can do for them. Well, that kind of thinking couldn’t be farther from the Truth. There is nothing more powerful than standing in a friend’s family room holding their hands and lifting them up to the Lord for healing.
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
James 5:16
6 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
