“Power in Prayer”

Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Terri and I have been praying together our whole married life. That is over forty-one years of praying together. Prayer is an integral part of our daily life. Prayer has had so many benefits for our lives. First, we use prayer to communicate with our Heavenly Father and we know He hears our prayers. Prayers helps us find strength for each day and hope for the future. Prayer is not a thing that is to be taken lightly and you need to do it each day and some days multiple times a day. Prayer is a way for us to be able to help someone carry their burden.

Right now, I have multiple family members I am praying for. It is a privilege to go before the Lord and lift their needs up to Him. I know God is hearing my prayers.

I have found you need to be ready to pray at any time. I have prayed with people in their homes, in hospital rooms, people at work and people over the phone. I have even prayed multiple times on the golf course…. NOT about my game, but I play golf with a pastor of a church. We have been on a course a few times when he received a call from one of his members with a need in a crisis. At those times we stop right on the course and pray. I have had the opportunity to pray with people that Terri and I have ran into on our travels. I believe God put me in that spot at that time to pray with a total stranger. I find it a privilege to be able to pray for someone. In the book of James, it says that the prayer of righteous man is powerful and effective. I am not righteous from anything I have done, but I am righteous from what Jesus did for me on the cross.

James 5:16 (NIV)

16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
