“Pray for our Military Serving on Thanksgiving Day”

Let’s remember our Service men and women who are away from home this Thanksgiving. A big part of celebrating Thanksgiving is being with family as we celebrate the Holidays. I spent a few Thanksgivings away from home when I was in the Navy. I remember one time being away from home on Thanksgiving when I was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) sailing out on the Pacific Ocean.

I wasn’t alone as I had over 5000 shipmates all of them were away from their families. The meal the Navy put out for us was great, turkey and all the trimmings. So, we made it through the day, but it wasn’t the same. The thing missing was our families. At that time back in the 1980’s there was no way to call home at sea and say hi. I could only dream about the family getting together back home. After the meal the kids would be playing, some would be playing hearts, spades, or even euchre.

The following year we were in port for Thanksgiving. Terri and I had some of the single guys from my shop on the ship over for a turkey dinner and a chance to watch the football games while sitting on a sofa. They were on good behavior.

So, let's remember our young men and women this Thanksgiving that are serving our nation and away from family. Ask God to watch over them.

(Romans 8:38-39)

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
