Promised Inheritance

Praise God that He has given us a deposit of guarantee for those who have put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. You could ask what is God guaranteeing and what is this deposit?

As Christians the number one thing to be thankful for is what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross for the penalty of our sins. Once we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit indwells within us. This is the deposit that God has given us that He is guaranteeing the He will do what He has promised. We change our behavior and conduct as we mature as Christians. It is not us doing this under our own power, but the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that now indwells us.

Paul refers to the Holy Spirit as a seal that God has given us as a deposit guaranteeing that we will share in His inheritance. We belong to God. This should bring us peace and comfort knowing that someday we will be in heaven with our Lord and Savior. God has given us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee that this will happen. That should put a smile in your heart.

Ephesians 1: 13-14

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory.
