Risk and Reward
Every relationship has its risks and rewards. In a relationship we make ourselves vulnerable, but the rewards offer great fulfillment in our lives. To have a relationship with Christ we also have a risk and reward. For example, to be a witness and testimony for God, you put yourself out for possible criticism. But like everything, when you compare the risk up against the reward of being a testimony for God it is worth it. Rick Warren says that criticism is the cost of influence. However, to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior is much more fulfilling and worth the risk.
When Jesus met the rich young ruler, He invited him to follow Him. He said come follow Me in Mark 10:21 (NIV)
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Christ didn’t offer him a financial adviser; He offered the rich young ruler a relationship. It was too much for the rich young ruler and he walked away from Jesus. We have that same opportunity today. It is worth being a follower of Christ.
Matthew 19:29 (NIV)
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
There is a cost of being a follower of Christ, but it is worth it. 😊 Yeah!!!
