Still Waters
Life can keep us busy and seem like we are bounced around from one problem to another. The burden can seem like we are carrying a heavy load, and it can weigh us down. Before you know it, our joy can be gone. Every phase of life has its own burden. I can remember talking with my mother, she would tell me getting older isn’t what it is cracked up to be. During the work years, it can be tough working and then trying to raise a family. Now COVID has brought a whole new set of burdens. It can seem at times like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. That is not what our Lord has in mind for his children.
Psalm 23 is about the good shepherd, which is the Lord, and we are his sheep.
Psalm 23:2b “He leads me beside still waters”.
The Lord doesn’t want us to lead a life that is overwhelming with burdens. He wants to lead us beside still waters. Our Shepherd wants to lead us to a place of rest, a place of trust, a place of confidence, a place where you rely on Him and focus on Him without anything that will distract you. He wants to take the “heavy load” from your life and replace it with His everlasting peace and rest.
Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
You might say, these are good words but how do you do this. You must live your life close to God. You nurture your relationship with God by spending time with God in his Word and talking with Him in prayer. Tell God about your burdens and He will lead you besides still waters.
