“What is God telling you in His Word?”
When you read your bible are you reading it and then what you read goes right in and out and you don’t even know what you just read? Or are you reading the bible with the mind thinking about what the Lord wants to tell you? Are you listening to God’s small voice talking to you?
I did a bible study on prayer a few years ago that had an exercise that was very enlightening. In the exercise the group read scripture from Psalm then the group discussed what we got out of the scripture. To all the group it was nice, but no real message of application for our lives. Then we prayed and asked God to show us what He wanted us to know. The exercise had us read the same scripture in Psalm. What a difference, each member of the class received something different from the same passage we read a few minutes earlier.
I have read certain passages of the bible over the years, and I might get something different out of scripture each time I read it. The Holy Spirit dwells within Christians and knows our thoughts, attitudes, motives, needs, desires, basically everything we are dealing with. The Holy Spirit within will empower obedience to whatever God says. The Lord never calls us to do anything for which; He does not have a reason, purpose, or goal. When He doesn’t reveal to us what it is, we must trust Him.
God can speak to us in many ways. It is important as a Christian to stay in the Word and in prayer to stay in tune to what God is saying to us.
2 Timothy 3:16, (NLT) "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."
