Where Do We Find Our Identity?
We all struggle with self-image from time to time. We often tie ourselves into a title that we can’t shake off. That person is a car salesman, IT guy, nurse, divorcee, gossip, liberal, conservative, big mouth, old cranky guy, mean old lady, tall girl, fat guy, etc.… These titles can give us a self-image that can be a view that society has labeled us with.
However, Jesus sees beyond the labels right into our hearts.
1 Peter 2:9 “NIV”
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
John at times would refer to himself not as John, but as the one that Jesus loved. We should view ourselves as God sees us, which is one of his children. If we see our identity as a child of God, then we shouldn’t struggle with the label the world has given us. God’s view of us is what is important.
Ephesians 1:11
In him we are also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.
As a Christian the only label that matters is God’s label. That is a great way to live, being a child of God.
